Using content types

Content types are categories for the pages on your website. Content types are different depending on the distribution you choose. For example, if you’re converting to govCMS you’ll have these default content types:

  • Standard page
  • Blog Article
  • Event
  • Media Release
  • News Article
  • Promotion
  • Publication
  • Slide
  • Webform

Different content types have different fields, which you can assign different rules to (see the Using rules section of this documentation). When you migrate, any page assigned to a particular content type will be transformed according to the rules associated to the content type fields.

To use content types, click Content Types in the dashboard’s main menu – the Content Types page will display.

Viewing all the available content types

You can see the full list of available content types by clicking on the drop-down menu at the top of the page.

Tip: You can also see a list of content types after Exporting. Click here to find out how.

Assigning the default rule

The Content Workbench is pre-set with a Default Body Rule that you can set by selecting it from the drop-down menus. The default rule will take effect if you don’t set any page-specific rules using the Edit Page function.
